Description

Succulent and sweet, these pork loin chops come from our Gloucester Old Spots. As a slow-growing breed, they bring that sweetness and the right level of fat for a delicious meal.

Portion: 2 chops (approx. 450g)

Serves: Up to 2 people

--

The Butcher: The loin provides nice lean meat, with a good level of fat. It is carefully cut to provide a good sized chop without the bone.

In The Kitchen: These chops can be quickly fried and served with chips and peas as an alternative to beef steak. Otherwise, cook with a nice onion gravy, mash potato and seasonal veg.

Proper pork chopsReviewed by Pmlennox on 11 Mar 2022

Most people view the fat as something bad but that's wrong thinking. This beautiful pork chop is as it should be. Very tasty and the fat renders down leaving one of the most tasty chops you'll experience. We cut off the rind leaving the fat on the chop and render the rind before salting it and giving it a 10/15 minute blast in a hot oven giving you the most amazing pork crackling to go with the chop. I've only given it 4* because Iberico pork or Middle White have an intense flavor hard to beat but we'll certainly buy this beautiful pork chop again without hesitation

Gloucester Old Spot Pork

“Once you try Gloucestershire Old Spots pork you'll turn your back on the tasteless dried up intensively reared pork forever.”Derek Cooper on the BBC Food Programme

Our Gloucester Old Spot piglets are selected from a small number of small holders who keep them in a free range system, allowing them to exhibit natural behaviours such as rooting for food and wallowing in the summer.

We purchase the piglets at 8 -10 weeks, where they are moved to deep straw bedded traditional pigstys with an outside pen. The pigs are fed on the best balanced proprietary food and a spot of milk.

Using an English slow growing breed of pig, in particular the Gloucester Old Spot, the pork is sweet with just the right amount of fat to assist flavour and cooking - and the crackling is something else!
